How To Thrive With Peripheral Neuropathy...Not Just Live

Monday, October 23, 2023

There is a truth that I believe wholeheartedly: "You Were Born To Be Extraordinary..." What that means for you may be different than my interpretation, but for peripheral neuropathy the concept is that nothing should keep you from living the life you want... that you deserve!

I took the small infant in my arms and looked down at him... it had been years since I held a baby related to me, but I didn't feel the overwhelm I felt with baby Camilla (our first baby), but I felt a love and an excitement... this was my first grandchild!

I have felt that same feeling with the birth of the next grandchild, and I am sure I will feel it with each one, but there was a distinct thought I had at that time that I did feel with each of my children: I wanted her to have everything in this life!  I wanted her to understand who she was!  I wanted to have the health and ability to not just love her but show her how amazing this life really was.  That was MY extraordinary life!

What does your extraordinary life look like?

The truth is, I have found even with my peripheral neuropathy I can life that extraordinary life! And I am doing on a daily basis.  And there are some simple techniques that make it possible:

  • Start Every Day With Belief: This may seem like an oversimplification, but how you start you day makes a difference.  My recommendation is to start with positivity, happiness and belief that this will be a good day.  There is proven value to this fact.  In fact, if you open your eyes in the morning, take a deep breath and say, "This is going to be a great day!" with a smile on your face... it is proven that the day will be better. (Note: I am not saying this will make you not have the discomfort or distraction of neuropathy, but it will make it easier to deal with it.)
  • Use The Power Of The Mind: There are several techniques that give you access to the power of the mind... and the power of the subconscious mind in particular. These include prayer (although this also gives you access to God and His help), meditation, becoming unhackable in your daily life and more specifically using special techniques called neurolinguistic programing, self-hypnosis, meditation, accessing the pain neuromatrix and anchoring.  (Note: These techniques take time to get good at and may require some instruction.)
  • Optimize Your Health: One of the most powerful techniques to improving nerve health is improving health of the body.  This includes drinking sufficient fluids (I recommend 10-12 cups a day of water... no other fluid counts for this), eating nutrient rich foods (nutrition is necessary for nerve health), appropriate exercise, limiting processed foods, and limiting or even eliminating added sugars.
  • Live A Life of Gratitude: As you live a life of gratitude, you will see the blessings in your life, you will see the good days and you will be more equipped to live with the bad days!  This can be done by utilizing a gratitude journal, where each night you write at least one thing from the day you are grateful for.
  • Utilize Available Management and Treatment For Neuropathy: It is very important that you don't interpret this post as saying "neuropathy is all in you mind" because that is not true.  What I am saying is that you can make your day to day better using the unquestionable power of the mind.  But you must also use all the tools you can to both manage and treat your peripheral neuropathy.   This includes UNDERSTANDING your peripheral neuropathy (especially how you neuropathy is unique), MANAGE the symptoms using every technique available, CONTROL nerve damage by treating the cause and then you can THRIVE even with peripheral neuropathy!

What it comes down to, is that you have the power to still enjoy your life, to live you life without limitations even with peripheral neuropathy!

P.S. Let's Empower Your Extraordinary...
